Tunisian architect and urban planner and the former
director of the Association de Sauvegarde de la Médina de Tunis, Sémia Akrout-Yaïche passed away on Wednesday 27 April 2015. She received the Aga Khan
Award for Architecture twice, in 1995 for Hafsia Quarter II and in 2010 for the
Rehabilitation of the Hypercentre of Tunis. Prior to her time at the Association de Sauvegarde de la Médina de Tunis, Sémia Akrout-Yaïch was the director of the Fondation du Patrimoine et des
Villes Historiques Arabes à Tunis.
