Attilio Petruccioli

Attilio Petruccioli is Professor of Landscape Architecture and Dean of the School of Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Bari, Italy.  From 1994 to 1998 he was the Aga Khan Professor of Design for Islamic Societies at the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From  2012-2013 he was the Msheireb Property Chair at Qatar University.

Professor Petruccioli worked  to transform, by design, a small academic institution in Southern Italy into one of the main international research centres for the study of traditional urban environments and the application of modern information technologies to their physical restoration and social revitalization. As a result of his longlasting and passionate interest, he has written and edited more than 32 books on the topics of architectural design and the history of Islamic architecture. His research interests are the methodology of design (landscape and contextual design, typological research and the work of modern architects), traditional settlements and housing, Islamic architecture, town and territory and Mediterranean landscape architecture.
