Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Algiers, Algeria
The new building to house the ministry is organized around two courtyards, the minister's courtyard, and garden of public services, the first square and the other long and rectangular.  Both reflect an architectural style that is formal, institutional, and evocative of the nation it represents, though the minister's courtyard is better-suited to official functions.  Located on a promontory overlooking the Mediterranean, Islamic geometries, arcades and water elements feature prominently in the multi-storey, stone-clad, monumental building that asserts with the building materials and technologies, a presence firmly in the 21st century. The architecture remains, nonetheless, above all, the architecture of courtyards.
