D6 and D7 Buildings
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This pair of seven-storey office buildings forms a ‘gateway’ to Sentul, a neglected district currently under redevelopment. Both contain flexible commercial spaces for rent at ground floor, and modular one- and two-storey offices for sale above. The budget and setting required simple materials and design, the essential structure being standard reinforced concrete; but low-cost measures add interest. D7 is clad in aluminium, its distinctive L-shaped windows allow unusual lighting and views, and its corridors and fire access form dramatic sky bridges across the courtyard. D6’s double-height corridors bring natural light deep into the building, and its wire mesh cladding acts as a privacy screen, noise barrier and climber for tropical plants.
