Sarpi Border Checkpoint
Sarpi, Georgia
Located on a beach on the Black Sea where the Georgian and Turkish borders meet, this checkpoint seeks to redefine the typology of border crossings. Programmatically, beyond immigration and customs offices, it includes a cafeteria and a conference room. In countries with porous borders where identity cards serve as passports and the border crossing leads to a beach, the checkpoint is reformulated as a meeting place. With its cantilevering terraces, the tower is used as a viewing platform, with multiple levels overlooking the waterIt is constructed of concrete and steel and was fabricated on site, with a polyurethane exterior coating.
