Muskulum Grove Houses
Muğla, Türkiye
Standing on a small hill in a tangerine grove overlooking the Aegean Sea, this development is a modern interpretation of the traditional hilltop village. Each of its 18 units is unique in plan and is knitted into an integrated whole, the roofs of certain houses serving as terraces for neighbouring ones. With multiple courtyards in different orientations, all residents can find shade at any time of day. Built of concrete, with insulated cavity walls, the houses are rendered with a textured white cement mixture that echoes the appearance of traditional local buildings. Centralised heating, plumbing and ventilation systems are hidden from view and accessed by an underground service tunnel.
