Farmhouse
Izmir, Türkiye

Located at the entrance to the architect’s olive plantation, the buildings comprise a caretaker’s cottage with bathroom and kitchen, and a depot for farming equipment and olive oil storage. Judging that local building techniques had lost their meaning, the architect sought neither a blend nor a contrast with the setting, but simply conceived the design as a pleasant environment. Equally instinctive is the choice of the colour red, with no particular connotation. The structures are prismatic in form, their roofs conceived as a fifth facade. Built of plastered concrete and brick, they stand on a concrete-framed platform with infill of smashed white stone particles.
