Proud Heritage Clothing Campus
Durban, South Africa
This industrial workspace for a clothing design and distribution company is divided between two warehouse buildings in which the determining design factor was the optimisation of the layout of storage palettes in relation to truck access and loading. Both structures employ concrete plinth and steel-framed shed construction clad with lightweight sheeting to create tall and airy structures with steel trusses and steel and glass walls addressing storage needs and reflecting the architect’s predilection for modern abstract simplicity. Humanising elements such as natural light and cross ventilation, balconies, canteens, gardens, recreation and rest areas enliven the spaces and the work experience, while the shared facilities are designed to promote interaction and the flattening of hierarchies.
