Student Residential Campus
Cairo, Egypt
Organised around a central plaza at the American University of Cairo, the student housing village employs a series of common spaces - colonnades, passages and plazas, gardens and water features - that progressively lead to the privacy of the individual courtyard. The courtyard house is, in fact, the basic building block for housing in the university’s new campus, employed for the men’s and the women’s wings as well as for faculty housing. Each courtyard cluster is two to three storeys high, and houses around 40 students. Constructed of poured concrete and concrete block with a stucco finish, the architectural character of the Student Housing is appealingly open, colorful and suitable for common study and relaxation.
