Xinjiang Science Hall
Urumqi, China
The Science Hall building is composed of three parts: the oblong, ten-storey high main building and two triangular, low-rise structures, respectively placed to the east and north of the main building. The former is the projection hall while the latter houses 300-seat auditorium and multi-purpose hall. A ramp leads to the main entrance marked by three pointed arches, each of which supports a cantilievered canopy. The main building is erected around a central service core. The remaining floor space can be divided by partitions in a flexible manner. The exterior facades are treated with arched forms and contrast green patterned mosaics and white and cream-coloured ceramic tiles.
