Health Centre and GATV
Manhica, Mozambique
This simple structure forms part of a larger complex including a Malaria vaccine research unit. It is intended for the local community and has special facilities for AIDS patients, as well as assisting outpatients suffering from other infectious diseases including TB and leprosy. While the primary function is to offer pre- and post-natal care, such is the need for healthcare that the waiting areas can receive several hundred patients in a single morning. Priority has therefore been given to the orientation, shading and ventilation of these spaces. All rooms are cross-ventilated and naturally lit creating a comfortable and functional environment at minimal cost.
