Egyptian Embassy
Khartoum, Sudan
This project has involved the rehabilitation of Khartoum’s 1930s Egyptian Embassy, which had been compromised by a number of inappropriate accretions. The aim has been to respect the historical value of the existing buildings and introduce architectural unity while also distinguishing new structures. The complex now comprises a revitalised main building; a rebuilt annex, providing administrative, medical, commercial and hospitality areas; a recreation building; and an exhibition building with multipurpose hall. This provides an important gathering place for the Egyptian community, while the grounds and recreation areas are open to both Egyptians and Sudanese, encouraging interaction between the two.
