Rumah Kinda Office
Jakarta, Indonesia
This office for an aircraft components supplier reflects his risk-taking character. He wanted an intimate environment that at the same time mitigated the harsh urban context. The resultant form was generated by origami, with nicks to create the openings that distinguish the building. The concrete construction functions as a sound barrier against the highway and railway line to the north. A courtyard provides further respite and acts as an informal communication space with a timber stage for performance. Below this is a subterranean meeting room and behind it a partially screened prayer area, reflecting prayer’s central role in daily life and giving worshippers privacy at the same time.
