Oil Exhibition Center
Dhahran, Saudi Arabia
The irregularly shaped structure contains exhibition spaces and offices. It covers the site diagonally, following a north-west/south-east axis. At both ends of this spine the roof drops slightly in its center. The corners of the eastern and western sides are glazed and further protected by white concrete sun-screens placed in their front, and moulded to assume geometric patterns based on diamonds and hexagons. A central entrance hall serves as a multi-level access area, with ramps for the handicapped, and leads to the exhibition halls on the right and the auditorium and administrative offices on the left. Internal spaces are lit by means of skylights dotted along the main diagonal axis and artificial lighting in the exhibition halls. Both the external granite finish and a stone berm erected around the base of the building integrate it with the surrounding desert-scape.
