Malatya City Hall comprises three clearly defined but interlocking parts. The main block is a ten storey, double-skinned ellipse containing arcs of office space around a central atrium. A five floor circular mayoral block looks out over a plaza to the front and the atrium to the rear, while a spiral shaped city council room and multifunctional hall below also both open onto the atrium. Traversed by a meridian-like path across the site, the atrium provides views and access to all parts of the complex, bringing transparency and spatial continuity, as well as providing a social and cultural meeting point for the city’s inhabitants.
