Centre Franco-Afghan
Kabul, Afghanistan
Constructed to house the French Department at the University of Kabul, this two storey building, a joint venture of the French Embassy in Kabul and the Afghanistan Ministry of Higher Education, provides classroom spaces, language laboratories, offices, a cafeteria, and other spaces related to the functioning of a language department. The architecture builds on the successes encountered, and the lessons learned at the Teachers' Training Institute. It utilises traditional brick on the principal facades, picking up on designs within the neighbourhood and adjoining buildings, while other surfaces are treated with plaster.
