Bayt Maksoud
Damascus, Syria
This villa is located outside Damascus on a wooded site with views of the mountains. The design is sustainable in economic, environmental and social terms. The house adapts itself to its location, embracing views without felling trees. These are used to moderate the internal temperature through shading because large areas of glazing are essential to the day-lighting strategy and to connect interior and exterior. A lower ground level planned around a pool is visually connected to the main living space above via open terraces. The massive construction, including local stone, is designed to moderate seasonal temperature variations. The house is flexible to change and extension over time.
