Central Library
Bam, Iran
With its combination of a cube and three cylinders, the library building has been designed to portray the world’s largest mud brick monument, the Citadel of Bam. The large cylinder-shaped part of the building accommodates the library’s reading hall the two smaller cylinders are used for utilities and circulation. The cubic area accommodates the library’s seminar hall, offices and storage spaces. An adjacent orchard was carefully preserved through the construction work, and can now be used as an additional reading area.
