Levent Loft
Istanbul, Türkiye
This development was a conscious move to introduce the American concept of urban loft living to Istanbul. Located in a developing business district, it reuses the concrete frame of a narrow office building comprising three blocks. The raw materiality is expressed internally in 144 apartments providing live/work accommodation. The social idea of a community made up of diverse individuals is expressed in the facade, which is perceived as an assortment of boxes, and in the shared spaces including lobby, bar, gym and hammams. In contrast to the proliferation of corporate skyscrapers, the project preserves the industrial history of the area, giving it new life as a residential enclave.
