New Limbang Airport
Limbang, Malaysia
At peak flow, the new regional airport at Limbang can handle three planes and 180 passengers (half of them arriving, the others departing). Its main concourse has a high ceiling, for improved ventilation, and a mezzanine level with a viewing gallery overlooking the parking apron and runway. The dynamic roof form expresses the idea of a 'gateway' - the airport is a point of entry to the northern region of Malaysia. The metal roof is double-insulated and rests on steel trusses supported by concrete columns and beams. Extended roof eaves provide protection against weathering. Below them, the airside facade has full-height glazing.
