Arris Apartments
Singapore, Singapore
This apartment building reacts to the urbanite's ambivalent desire to remain anonymous, but at the same time be on show. The front facade - a glass curtain wall - exposes the lifestyle of the inhabitants to public view. The rear facade, with its controlled openings, shields their privacy. The building sits on a triangular plot and forms a seven-storey block topped by a separate recessed three-storey element. The stepped massing significantly reduces the scale of building from the street and ensures adequate natural light for the apartments, which have a maximum depth of 10-12 metres.
