House at K8/8
Bandung, Indonesia
This project - designed in the late 90s, in the midst of Indonesia's political and economic crisis - is offered as a model of a low-cost, low-maintenance family house. It uses off-the-shelf materials, such as hollow door panels and plaster cement, in innovative ways. The walls are made of hollow concrete blocks, with the ribs hollowed out in places to allow for the insertion of load-bearing columns. The porosity of the material also helps to create an airflow that counteracts the humidity of the climate. Blank modules under the roof further increase ventilation.
