Boh Visitor Centre
Cameron Highlands, Malaysia
The visitor centre for Boh tea plantations is a naturally ventilated 160-metre linear structure, defined externally by the cantilevered viewing terrace that runs the length of its main facade. The building absorbs several existing facilities (such as a tearoom). It also preserves established trees - sometimes by constructing floor slabs and roof structure around them. Support facilities such as kitchen, storage and toilets are expressed as 'solid cubes' that intersect the main structure. The cubes are clad in perforated zinc or brick; elsewhere timber-textured concrete walls are combined with natural materials such as bamboo and timber logs.
