A palace conceived as a linear succession of buildings lying in a north-south direction with a series of landscaped gardens, arranged to provide a hierarchy of increasingly private spaces. Starting from public function rooms such as the throne room and the banqueting hall, the building unfolds through the semi-private reception rooms of the main lounge into the private royal suites.

The design has been inspired by a variety of architectural traditions and combines pointed arches, gardens, and heavily decorated interiors. The pitched roofs are the unifying feature throughout the series of buildings. Their form was determined by the climate which requires large eaves and overhangs to offer sufficient protection from the heavy rains and tropical sun. Verandahs and balconies are incorporated within the building lines.
