Ruwais Mosque
Jiddah, Saudi Arabia
Al-Ruwais mosque features three domes lining the qibla" wall. These use externalized stepped drums in the manner of Cairene Mamluk monuments. Two consecutive series of catenary vaults ensure a natural ventilation of the prayer hall and are very reminiscent of those used in the so-called Nubian vernacular architecture. The short minaret ends with a tapering dome and crescent finial.
