Siraty Residence
Masuleh, Iran
The main concern here was to fit a new house into a cluster of picturesque -but primitive - buildings, where the ground floor originally served as a shelter for livestock. The project recreates the open and multifunctional spaces found in the old houses, but adapts them for modern living. It combines traditional materials (e.g. wood, stone and 'foosh' - a yellow sand finish) with an earthquake-resistant reinforced concrete structure.
