Neemrana Fort-Palace Revitalisation
Neemrana, India
Restored for adaptive re-use as a heritage hotel, the 15th century Neemrana Fort-Palace, was once home of royal families. From a state of utter ruin, this monument consisting of a series of courtyards on ten different levels now houses 42 suites, a swimming pool, hanging gardens, banquet halls, and a museum. Most building materials were found within the ruins. Modern services, including electricity and plumbing, were introduced but structural changes kept to a minimum, relying principally on local skills and techniques. Re-use of the complex is expected to fund its future maintenance.
