Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
Muscat, Oman

The largest mosque in the Sultanate with a capacity of 20'000 worshippers is the result of a limited competition held in 1992. The main prayer hall with a capacity of 6,600 covered by a dome rising to a height of 50 metres, is the main element of the complex surrounded by inner and outer sahns. The boundaries of the edifice is marked by four minarets, each 45 metres high while a fifth minaret (91.5 metres high) marks the side entrance together symbolising the five pillars of Islam.
