Villa Hassanein 'ala al-Kurnish
Cairo, Egypt
"This house, which Fathy designed for his wife on a beautiful site next to the Nile, between Cairo and Maadi, had to be demolished in 1951 due to the widening of a road nearby. Another small residence that he designed for her, and which was built in Maadi itself near the present metro station, has been radically altered, and is now virtually unrecognizable. The first villa on the Nile Corniche was built in white limestone to an exquisite level of finish, with various intricate patterns of floor tiles, and many finely worked mashrabiya screens. All were lost in the course of the demolition." (constructed)
