Rahad Administration Buildings
Kassala, Sudan
This building type represents the overall design approach for a wide range of building types essential for the establishment and running of 300,000 acre irrigated agricultural scheme which involves the settlement of over 100,000 people.

As such, these buildings set standards for future similar schemes in Sudan, as well as demonstrating the use of materials and skills appropriate to the resources of the country. Low cost buildings that must give value for money present a greater challenge to the designer in that low maintenance and running costs, low energy consumption and long life are difficult to achieve on a tight budget.
