Masjid al-Amir 'Uthman Katkhuda
Cairo, Egypt

The mosque of Amir 'Uthman Katkhuda was built as part of a large complex in 1734. The exterior of the mosque has an unmistakably Mamluk character, but Ottoman influence manifests itself in the shape of the minaret, the tiles adorning the lintel of the entrance, and the centering of the portal on the front facade. The archaic hypostyle layout is unique among the mosques of this period.
