The programme aims to: develop alternative construction materials and methods to improve the quality and decrease the cost of informal housing; develop typologies that utilise space and infrastructure more economically; and to construct affordable rental housing to increase project impact. Begun initially as a modest upper-floor expansion to a single dwelling, subsequent phases have explored two-to-three storey houses. Phase 4 comprises a low-rise high-density 6-unit row-house on a small site. Each unit has a private outdoor area with kitchen; shared bathroom and laundry facilities are contained in a common courtyard. Built in compressed earth blocks, the project has a green roof. Phase 5 is delayed due to Covid.
