Evliya Çelebi describes this place as follows: After the conquest of Istanbul, Fatih Sultan Mehmed demolished the castle of Kadıköy. It still has 800 houses. It has one Muslim neighborhood, seven Greek non-Muslim neighborhoods, and 600 vineyards. There are windmills by the sea.
