Imamzadah Ja'far (Qum)
Qum, Iran
Located to the west of the center of the city, the Imamzade Ja'far has been assigned the earliest date of the many tomb towers in Qom. Constructed in brick, the tomb traces an octagonal plan on the exterior, square on the interior, crowned with an exterior polyhedral tent dome. The exterior faces have a broken headed arch set within rectangular recesses. On the interior, the qibla wall holds a rectangular mihrab niche; the three other walls are articulated with arched entrance portals, two of which have been blocked off.
