Hundreds of families lost their houses in the devastating Hadhramaut floods of 2008. The project consists of 633 housing unit divided into 429 units built of mud in the valley of Tarim, Hadhramaut, and 204 housing units built in the coastline, Mukalla, constructed of concrete because of environmental conditions at the coastline. The project concept focused on the necessity of providing a means of sustainable architecture that maintains the singularity of Hadhramaut and its traditional mud architecture and culture and builds an integrated community environment that provides all life necessities. Traditional construction methods and local materials were used with house bases in stone and walls made from. Most of the work was carried out manually using manpower and traditional tools.
