Mahoor Bazaar
Isfahan, Iran
The site of this project is adjacent to the Safavid Saint Mary Church, and the architects took care to protect the historic structure from damage during the construction phase. In addition, they restricted the height of the building to preserve the views of the dome and not overshadow the historic fabric of the Safavid neighbourhood in central Isfahan. The two-storey building contains 14 shops and a sunken garden at basement level creating an inviting public space that has ensured the popularity of the bazaar. The façades are clad in brick, in keeping with the context of the neighbouring dome and the building’s roof can be used as a restaurant with views of the dome.
