Wadi Al Azeiba
Muscat, Oman
Completed in 2013, this forsaken wadi was transformed into an open urban garden. Built through a residential area punctuated by a mosque, several schools, some shops and social activities, the park stretches 2 km over 17 hectares. Both banks of the wadi are landscaped with palm trees outlining two concreted walkways connecting with the city at the top. Winding, locally sourced stone paths along the floor of the wadi are planted with local shrubs and surrounded by graded gravel to facilitate water run-off. Equipment, games and sports (e.g., football, skateboard, bikes) can be found along the wadi floor. Irrigation during dry seasons is provided by recycled wastewater.
