The project involves the complete restoration of the ambulatory roof and the replacement of the Dome of the Rock shrine. This included a new 1,200m2 structure of curved brass sheets electroplated initially with copper and nickel and finally with eighty kilograms of pure gold. The specification for the ambulatory roofs required the removal of the existing aluminium trusses and sheeting and approximately 500 tonnes of concrete previously placed on the sheets in an unsuccesful attempt to prevent water seepage.
