Mid-Hudson Islamic Association
Wappingers Falls, United States
The Mid-Hudson Islamic Association (MHIA) was founded in the 1980s in response to the influx of Muslim families to the Hudson River valley in the 1970s and 1980s. Originally the group met in private homes, and in 1990 opened a masjid that would provide prayer, education, and community space. Masjid al-Noor sits on a plot of land set back from the road, surrounding by farmland. The building is two stories, with a peaked roof and with three ogee arches leading to the entrance. A small addition topped with a minaret was added to the northern side of the building sometime after the original construction. The men's prayer hall is located on the ground floor, and the women's prayer balcony is on the second floor overlooking the main prayer hall.
