From the introduction: Tajikistan has entered a new phase in its development. With a view to establishing a platform for the country’s further development, in 2005 the President of the Republic of Tajikistan initiated the drafting of this National Development Strategy (NDS), which is intended to provide for an orderly long-term development process in accordance with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). As Tajikistan’s principal strategic document, the National Development Strategy defines the priorities and general thrust of government policy, which is focused on achieving sustainable economic growth, expanding the public’s access to basic social services and reducing poverty.
