This Teachers’ Package is the outcome of a collaborative project between the Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan (AKES, P) and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC). The units, aimed at students in grades VI, VII and VIII, draw on resources developed through the work of the following programmes of AKTC: Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme, Aga Khan Award for Architecture and Aga Khan Museum. The purpose of these units is to support engaging, ethical and pluralistic learning and teaching within the Personal, Intellectual, Social & Moral Development Curriculum (PrISM) by encouraging students to reflect on how cultural assets can be deployed to bind communities together and effect sustainable physical, social, cultural and economic development.
The resources provide insights into the values and principles that guide the work of the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme to conserve and reuse buildings and public spaces across the Muslim world; of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, which recognises planning practices, historic preservation and landscape projects that successfully address the needs and aspirations of diverse societies across the world in which Muslims have a significant presence and of the Aga Khan Museum, which seeks through its collections to foster an understanding and appreciation of the contribution that Muslim Civilisations have made to world heritage.
