Approaching Architecture in the Muslim World: Novel Paths of Investigations questions the historiography of the “Islamic Architecture” field by scoring particular instances that fractured its foundations or methods, thereby shaping its objects of study. The aim of this issue, then, is to open new horizons for rethinking “Islamic” architecture and suggest novel interrogative paths to challenge the canonical frameworks that have dominated our approaches when discussing architecture in the lands of Islam, namely “typology,” “regionalism,” “master narratives,” and “patronage.”
