Consisting of eight lectures, the series, Architecture and Urban Development of the Deccan Sultanates, begins with an overview of the evolution of Indo-Islamic architecture and the manner in which the newly introduced social, cultural, and political ideals and religious beliefs and the existing Indian traditions interacted and shaped the architectural style. This lecture provides an overview of the lecture series and summarises the basic features of Indo-Islamic architecture. 


This series of lectures was prepared in collaboration between the Centre for the Study of Architecture and Cultural Heritage of India, Arabia and Maghreb (ArCHIAM), based at the University of Liverpool, UK, and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture Education Programme. 


This is the final lecture of the series. This lecture will: 

  • provide an overview of the lecture series;
  • summarise the basic features of Indo-Islamic architecture.
