Naïf Market
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
One of the oldest traditional markets in Dubai, Naif Market was largely destroyed by fire in April 2008. This reconstruction transforms it into a modern facility with a greater number of shops, as well as cafés, toilets, municipal offices, a women’s prayer room, basement parking and central air conditioning. It maintains elements of traditional architecture while adding new standards of modern architecture. The configuration of the openings in the atrium was carefully engineered to ensure maximum natural light; energy-saving lighting and sanitary systems were installed. Advanced construction methods using precast concrete blocks enabled the project to be completed in only 389 days.
