Iranian House
Kashan, Iran
The 250-year-old building of fired clay brick is built around a sunken garden and located in a traditional and historic district of Kashan. Restoration and conservation work have been carried out according to local techniques under the guidance of a female architect. The house contains five residential complexes located to the north, accessed traditionally through anterooms and cloakrooms. Public areas are to the south and services to the east and west. Coloured glass, plaster, tile work, and timber detailing decorate the interior. A central power house, radiators and ‘korsi’ room provide heating. Wind turrets and air conditioning are used for cooling.
