Tatar State University of Humanities and Education
Kazan, Russian Federation
A large-scale project in a historic quarter of central Kazan, the university is part of the Kazan theatre square ensemble of buildings and is designed to blend well with the scale and architecture of its historic surroundings. Its main entrance facade is a curved colonnade that together with the facade of the old theatre forms a ‘gate’ to the historic neighbourhood. The building’s design is based on rectangular and radial planning grids that separate the educational, sports, administrative, scientific and library facilities. The structure is reinforced cast concrete with brick walls. It is clad in granite and has stained glass windows.
