Ehsanpood Textile Factory
Tehrān, Iran
This project comprising residential and administrative areas as well as two textile production halls was inherited by its architects after construction had begun in the form of two rather undistinguished rectangular buildings. The solution was to place the residential and administrative areas in two separate sections overlooking a square to the front of the site, bridging them with a superstructure to create a monumental gateway while hiding the production halls behind. The structure is inspired by weaving’s transformation of linear elements into solids, and combines exposed steel and stone to create a distinctive aesthetic that has been extended to the production halls.
