Vali-Asr Building
Tehrān, Iran
Aiming to bring architectural character to a busy commercial area with a mixture of undistinguished buildings, this two-storey office is designed as a sculpture of carved stone. The facade is intended to reflect the motion and dynamism of its surroundings and is conceived as a continuous skin that is slashed to provide openings and pushed and pulled to create indentations both internally and externally. The white Brazilian marble of the facade contrasts with black Nadjafabad marble on the floors. Internally the space is designed to flow continuously around modulating surfaces and provide calm amid the bustle of the city.
