Villashahr Residential Complex
Tehrān, Iran
This residential complex provides 24 apartments of varying size in a popular resort outside Tehran. The key issue for the architect was to find an appropriate massing model for the sloping site in a spectacular landscape. The accommodation is divided into small units to preserve views and allow air circulation, and terraces and outside spaces are created by arranging the units in echelon and setting back their upper floors. The modular steel structure allowed for variation in width and layout, while also suiting the skills of local contractors. Local materials were used extensively, including rubble stone made from debris found nearby.
