Silk Museum Restoration
Bsous, Lebanon
This project aims not only to commemorate a dying trade that was key to Lebanon’s economic history but also to protect a living heritage of flora and fauna. The clients have restored a dilapidated silk factory dating from 1890 to create a silk museum, as well as replanting the surrounding gardens. Traditional techniques have been applied, using salvaged materials wherever possible, so that the workmanship and buildings are themselves part of the exhibit. The museum hosts international exhibitions, offers educational activities such as gardening and weaving workshops, and has provided a new community space for the people of Bsous.
